Full House: 10 Things About Uncle Jesse That Make No Sense

Jesse Katsopolis goes through many phases on Full House. He changes from a wandering single to a family man. He goes after his dreams instead of pursuing less appealing options. He sets aside a revolving door of romance for the one woman he is truly crazy about.

A lot of things about Jesse work really well for the series. He's a great uncle with a lot of love for the Tanners. But some things about Uncle Jesse just don't make sense. Here are ten head-scratchers about the hair-obsessed Elvis fanatic.

His Identity

Jesse is a multi-faceted man. He firmly establishes himself as a rocker, but he goes through multiple identity crises throughout Full House. He doubts his abilities as a father, a musician, a friend, and a provider. It makes sense to go through this once or twice, but Jesse really has a hard time with the questions. His struggles make fans want to reach back in time and counsel him.

His Education

There is a slight inconsistency in Jesse's high school education backstory. He nearly screws up his marriage to Rebecca by getting involved with his former flame at a high school reunion. Becky and Jesse patch things up, but the episode portrays Jesse as someone who was cool in high school.

Later on, Jesse is ashamed of his high school days, revealing that he was a drop-out. He finally decides to go back and finish via night school.

His Moods

Jesse is happy one minute, brooding the next. When it comes to the death of his sister, Jesse doesn't really open up too much. He's got a lot of bottled-up angst that he just needs to get out. It's not that his moods aren't ever valid; the ways he copes with them just don't always work. Whether he's skipping out on the family for Tahoe, skydiving on his wedding day, or just making a reckless choice, Jesse does not always deal with his emotions wisely.

His Interests

Jesse's whole life is anchored by family and music. Other interests are few and far between. It's fine for him not to be into a ton of other things, but there must be something else that he is passionate about. Jesse is an Elvis Presley fanatic, but his musical performance style is so different from the King. Fans know Jesse can get down with the Beach Boys (and kill it on a "Forever" cover), but his own creations don't get to shine very often.

His Friendships

Jesse's friends are essentially limited to his wife, his brother-in-law, his band, and Joey Gladstone. This might be a good circle, but it feels quite small. Jesse doesn't seem to have many random friends he can just call up and shoot the breeze with. A few blasts from the past arrive here and there, but it's weird that Jesse just doesn't hang out with many people in the present day.

His Career

Fans with fuzzy memories might forget that Jesse works as an exterminator in the show's earliest days. This is the family business, and Jesse finally decides it isn't for him. After that, he goes on a wild ride and tries out all kinds of careers in entertainment and media. It is normal to test the waters, but Jesse's job changes are pretty frequent throughout the series. With Becky in a consistent job for so long, maybe Jesse just wants to take advantage of the freedom to move around.

His Goals

Jesse's confused career can get in the way of fans seeing his true goals. He has both small and large victories during the show's run, and one of those is the premiere of his music video for the cover of "Forever." Jesse definitely wants to make it big in music, but his plan for reaching his goals is sometimes unclear. Fans don't blame him--for a good chunk of the show, he is a husband and father struggling to balance his family with his work.

His Background

Jesse certainly gets a little bit of a past with the set-up of Full House. Viewers quickly learn that he is Pam Tanner's brother. They also meet Jesse's parents and Greek relatives.

There are even some flashback moments that shed light on Jesse's friendship with Danny and Joey. However, fans could use a lot more information on how Jesse became Jesse.

His Parenting Style

As a young couple with career dreams, Jesse and Becky sometimes struggle to find their voice as parents. They have a lot on their plate as they continue to live with the Tanners. Much of their experience makes sense, but their arguments over haircuts and gendered toys don't make much sense in this day and age.

His Love Life

Jesse has been through his share of romances. He is notorious in the first season for short relationships that don't go anywhere. The confusing thing is that early Full House Jesse seems to be adamant about living his life for the "now" with no regard for the future. His love life is just one example of a young, confused dude. Thankfully, he takes some time to map out the big picture of what he wants out of life.
